Who we are
The Art of Sauna is a school for sauna masters and a knowledge platform on the sauna. It is run by Matīss Vilde (Latvia). Contact: info@theartofsauna.com.
Your participation contract is with the company named in your booking confirmation and invoice. You receive its name, registration number and address in writing before you pay.
These terms apply to the website theartofsauna.com and to our programmes, courses and gift cards. If a programme has its own conditions, such as a different payment or cancellation date, they are stated on the programme page or in your booking confirmation, and they take precedence.
Using the website
- The texts, photos, magazine, illustrations and the Trinity Belt sign belong to The Art of Sauna or are used with the authors’ permission or under licence. You are welcome to read them and share links. You may not copy, republish or use them commercially without our written permission. Short quotations are fine with a reference to the source.
- The content is educational. It is not medical advice and does not replace a doctor.
- We are not responsible for the content of other websites we link to.
Applying and the contract
- An application on the website is not yet a purchase. We reply personally, confirm that a place is available and send you the payment details.
- The contract starts once we have confirmed your place in writing and received the reservation fee.
- Places are limited. They are given in the order in which reservation payments arrive. If the group is full, we offer a place on the waiting list.
Prices and payment
- We give the price on the programme page or in writing when we reply to your application or question. It is the final price per participant, including all applicable taxes. What is and is not included (for example flights, insurance and personal expenses) is described on the programme page.
- A place is reserved with a reservation fee; its amount is stated in your confirmation. The balance is due by the date given on the programme page or in your confirmation. For the practice week in Spain (2–6 November 2026) that date is 26 October 2026.
- Payment is by bank transfer or another method we state in the confirmation. We do not take card payments on the website.
- If the balance is not paid on time, we send a reminder. If payment still does not arrive, we may offer the place to the next person on the waiting list, and this counts as a cancellation by you.
14-day right of withdrawal
Under EU consumer law, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to leisure services provided on a specific date or within a specific period. Our cancellation terms below apply instead.
If you cancel
- The reservation fee is non-refundable, because we use it to book the accommodation and the team. But it is not lost: you can pass your place on to someone else, or move it to one of our future programmes if a place is free there. Just let us know in writing.
- Everything else you have paid is refunded in full if you cancel in writing by the date set for the programme. For the week in Spain that is up to and including 26 October 2026. We refund within 14 days.
- If you cancel later or do not come, the amount paid is not refunded. You can still pass your place on to someone else.
- If you have to stop part-way through, for example because of illness, the unused part is not refunded. That is why we recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation.
If we cancel or change a programme
- If we cancel a programme (for example because there are too few participants, or for reasons of illness or safety), we refund everything you have paid, including the reservation fee, within 14 days. If you prefer, we can move your place to another date. We tell you as soon as we know.
- We are not responsible for flights or other costs you did not buy from us. We recommend flexible tickets and insurance.
- We may adjust the daily schedule to the weather, the group and safety. If something essential has to change, such as the dates, the venue or the lead sauna master, you can withdraw and receive everything you have paid.
Health and safety
- The sauna, heat, cold water and whisking are a physical load. Only take part if your health allows it. If you have a heart or circulation condition, high or low blood pressure, epilepsy, an acute infection or fever, if you are pregnant, have recently had surgery, or take medication that affects your heart or blood pressure, talk to a doctor before you apply and tell us.
- No step is mandatory. You can say “stop”, step outside or skip any part at any time.
- The sauna master may lower the heat, pause a step or ask you to rest when your safety requires it. Please follow such guidance.
- The flight in the water and any touch happen only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- We do not use alcohol, drugs or other intoxicating substances in our programmes. For safety reasons, participants who are under the influence cannot take part.
- Our programmes are not medical treatment, therapy or diagnosis.
- In an emergency we call 112.
Liability
- We prepare our programmes with care and take responsibility for our work.
- We are not liable for loss or harm that results from a participant ignoring safety guidance, withholding important health information or being under the influence. Nor are we liable for indirect losses or for belongings left unattended.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it, for example for harm to life or health caused intentionally or through gross negligence on our part. These terms also do not limit your rights as a consumer.
- We recommend travel and health insurance. EU residents should bring their European Health Insurance Card.
Gift cards
- A gift card entitles the holder to take part in the programme stated on it, or to use the amount stated on it.
- It can be passed on to someone else. It cannot be exchanged for cash.
- If we cancel the programme on the card, we refund the person who bought it or, if they prefer, offer another date.
- The validity is shown on the card. If no date is shown, the card is valid for 12 months from the day it is issued.
Photos and video
At our programmes we take photos and video only with the participants’ consent. Please do not photograph other participants without their permission, especially in the sauna.
The magazine and materials
The Sauna Academy magazine and our other materials are for personal use. You may not republish, sell or pass them on without our permission. If we start selling subscriptions or online courses, we will add their terms to this page before sales begin.
Complaints and disputes
- If something is not right, write to info@theartofsauna.com. We will reply within 15 days at the latest.
- If we cannot agree, you can contact the Consumer Rights Protection Centre of Latvia. If you live in another EU country, you can also contact the European Consumer Centre Latvia.
- These terms are governed by Latvian law. If you are a consumer in another EU country, you also keep the mandatory consumer protection of your own country.
Changes
We may update these terms and will publish the new version on this page with a date. Your participation is governed by the version that was in force when we confirmed your place.
